What to Expect During Training

Visitation Policy

As far as visitations during the training, it's kind of like taking your kid to camp, visiting them in the middle, then leaving again. Some kids would be totally fine and others may be a little confused and sad that they wouldn't be able to go home with their parents. Having said that, I would of course never tell anyone that they couldn't see their dog during the training, I just wouldn't recommend it. Katie and Christy will do their best to send you pictures and updates keeping you posted throughout the process of how everything is going and at any time you can contact Christy. If you have any questions about this policy Katie would be happy to chat with you about it.

Updates & Pictures of Training Progress

Katie's business is a one woman show, with management assistance from Christy. It is difficult to send updates via text message on a daily basis while balancing training with her girl's homeschooling during COVID. You can expect at least 2 pictures during your dog's stay. You are more than welcome to text or email Christy at any time for updates, and should you have any questions during training please feel free to reach out to Christy.

*Tenative Stay Explanation

The length of stay of the residency program depends on a few factors. During the drop off we always give the dogs a day to get acclimated to their new surroundings and no training happens this day because they are usually so focused on playing with the other dogs and getting used to everything. The pickup date is also not counted because we do an entire training session (usually 1.5hrs) with you to work on all commands. They are usually SO tired by the end of this that they wouldn't be able to focus on any other training (it really tires them out mentally). Also, depending on the season, the weather is a variable.  When it rains we are unable to set up distractions outside, and some dogs do not particularly like the snow. Of course, the entire stay is included in the original package price - we do not charge extra for any days added on the program due to outside factors. Katie's goal is to get each dog where they need to be before going home regardless of any extra days that may be included :)

What date/time do I pick my dog up?

Christy will be in touch a few days before the end of training to schedule a date/time. You are also welcome to contact Christy for estimates of completion as your dog gets closer to the end. There are times when Katie knows at the beginning if the dog may take longer because it is taking longer for him or her to adjust. Our priority is always to have your dog completely comfortable before beginning and to have him or her one hundred percent trained before going home. Each dog is individual and the duration varies.
